Hemp Jewelry
Hemp comes from the Cannabis plant and is said to have over 25,000 uses including as a fuel, as paper, and as a fiber for clothing and jewelry. One of the leading uses of Hemp is actually for CBD. Hemp is often confused with marijuana because they both come from the Cannabis plant, however hemp contains less than 0.3% THC and is completely non-psychoactive, making it virtually impossible to get any sort of high. Hemp can be grown in most climates and requires very little maintenance, making it an ideal crop. Hemp is amazing for the environment and can be used as a substitute for many products, leading to smaller ecological footprint. It can be used for raw materials for wood and paper and its fast growing period makes it more ethical than trees and preserves forests. Hemp also helps reduce air pollution as it doesn’t require pesticides or herbicides and is very leafy, producing a high level of oxygen during its growth.
Hemp Jewelry is made from knotting hemp twine into many different types of jewelry, most commonly bracelets and necklaces. You can make hemp jewelry using almost any method, although half knot and full knot stiches are the most commonly used. Hemp twine can be found in many different colors and varieties of thickness. Most jewelry include various beads made of glass, wood, and stone. Some even have crystals or bone. Hemp jewelry is often stiff when first purchased, but will soften with proper care. Unless you are washing the jewelry, try not to get it wet. Water will lead to fuzz on the strand and weaken the fibers after continued exposure. If you do need to wash it, soak it in a mixture of water and a gentle soap for no longer than 30 minutes and lay it flat to dry.
